LaJarvia Brown was at it again Monday for the Alton High girls' track team.
Brown, a three-time winner in Saturday's Southwestern Illinois Relays at Edwardsville, won three more events Monday in a triangular at Collinsville.
And her triple jump distance was literally out of this world. The defending IHSA Class 3A champion soared a career-best 40 feet, 5 inches, a school record that eclipsed last year's state championship mark of 40-3.5. The 40-5 effort is the fifth best jump in IHSA history. Deana Simmons of Decatur MacArthur owns the all-time triple jump mark of 41-5 in 1996.
"We're shooting for LaJarvia jumping 42 feet this year, so I think it's realistic that she can get the all-time record," Alton coach Terry Mitchell said.
Brown also won the 100-meters in 12.73 seconds and the 200-meters in 26.2. She also ran the anchor leg on the Redbirds' 4x100-meter relay team, first in 51.1. Tyriss Holloway, Rylee Davis and Jalisa Casey joined her there. The Birds' 4x400-meter relay team of Katie Mans, Kimbreon Knight, Rebecca Adney and Tatiana Britt also won its race in 4:27.6.
In addition, Katie Mans soared 5-6 in the high jump to set a school record. Jessica Stockard held the old mark of 5-5 in 2000. Mans leaped 5-2 Saturday to take first in the Southwestern Illinois Relays. And Jewel Wagner finished first in the shot at 38-3. Wagner was runner-up at the Southwestern Illinois Relays.
Alton scored 85 points to outdo Edwardsville (84 points) and Collinsville (25 points) for team honors in the three-school meet. The Redbirds run Friday in the Belleville West Invite. Action begins at 11 a.m.
