Chicago Fire announces 2014 Boys All-State All-Academic Team
High school soccer’s best and brightest to be recognized at IHSSCA Honors Banquet
CHICAGO, IL (November 17th
, 2014) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today the 2014 Boys All-State All-Academic team.
These student athletes represent a group of talented, intelligent, hard working and community oriented people. While it is academic
achievement that qualifies the Boys for this award, to which we received over 130 nominations, we also look very closely at how they
performed on the field, are they involved in other activities at their schools and what they are doing in their communities.
This year we had Sixteen Valedictorians that were nominated of which eight made the 1st team. Par for the course was that
defenders led all nominations with 54, followed by midfielders who had 45 nominations. A total of 48% of the nominations scored 30 or
higher on their ACT test. Four students scored a near perfect 35 of which only 3 of them made the 1
st team and 18 other students
scored a 34. In addition, many players were giving back to the game as 40% had coached soccer and 44% had been a referee. Finally,
62% of the nominees were team captains, a very good sign of their leadership abilities. The Chicago Fire is extremely proud of these
tremendous selections.
Grant Community HS was the only school to have 2 players on the 1st team and they were joined by Mattoon HS & Moline HS
with 3 players on the first 2 teams. Four schools, Edwardsville HS, Lake Forest HS, Maine South HS and Naperville Central HS each
placed 2 players on the first 2 teams. Other top schools this year were Alton HS, Bradley-Bourbonnais HS & Herscher HS.
The Chicago Fire will be recognizing these students for this accomplishment in two different groups. All 1st team members will get
recognized at the IHSSCA Honors Banquet on Thursday, November 20th at the Diplomat West Banquet Hall, 681 West North Avenue,
Elmhurst, IL 60126.
The rest of the team along with 1st team members will also be recognized at a Chicago Fire game @ TOYOTA PARK
sometime in June or July of 2015. In addition to being recognized on the scoreboard during the game, these student
athletes will be brought down on the field after the game for a group photo. After that, they will participate in a private postgame
autograph session.
