Alton girls wins first conference game

Alton Lady Redbirds clinched their first conference win in over four years Thursday night by pulling out 50-48 over Granite City. On a two-pointer from Lajarvia Brown, Alton Lady Redbirds Varsity clinched their win in the fourth quarter.
With a 16-point first quarter on the strength of a 12-4 run, Granite City pulled ahead early, eventually claiming a 27-18 lead by halftime. But this wasn't enough to overcome Alton Lady Redbirds Varsity's 32 points in the final two quarters of the game.
Brown broke away to lead Alton's offense with 20 points, including seven during the fourth period.
Points for Alton were also put up by Jordann Wilson (14 points), Jasmine Bishop (6 points), Megan Paulda (5),Chayvon Buckingham (3) and Jewel Wagner (2).
