PREP BOWLING: Alton boys rally to place third at Abe Lincoln Tourney

Two games into the Abe Lincoln Tournament found Alton Redbirds boys bowling mid-pack in a field of 16 teams Saturday at King Pin Lanes in Springfield.
The Redbirds would climb up from eighth place to finish third behind champion Collinsville and runner-up O’Fallon. The Kahoks scored 6,290 pins for a game average of 209.7. The Panthers (203.3) were 192 pins back and the Redbirds (201.6) were 242 back of Collinsville. Highland was fourth at 5,995 and Jersey came in fifth at 5,991.

Alton’s Jared Cochran averaged 217.2 per game from six games to place fifth. The Redbirds’ Chris Duke joined Cochran in the top 10, finishing seventh with a 213.5 average. O’Fallon’s Josh Herran averaged 232.8 to win the boys championship, with Colliinsville’s Ryan Warner second at 226.
Jersey placed two in the top 20 with Zane Longley (209) in 13th and Jeremy Vanost (205.7) in 18th.
In the girls division that included 20 teams, O’Fallon averaged 208.8 per game to easily claim team honors at 6,263 pins. Collinsville was second at 5,626, with Salem, Mascoutah and Hoopeston capping the top five. Alton averaged 163 per game and was seventh, with Jersey at 150 to place 11th.
The Redbirds got big performances from Ashley Westbrook and Alex Bergin. Westbrook averaged 214.7 per game to finish third, just ahead of Bergin in fourth at 214.2. O’Fallon’s Natalie Heltne’s 242 average took the title, with teammate Mary Orf second at 224.5.
Jersey was led by Cassie Bowman in 24th place with a 176.2 average.
