PREP BOWLING: Alton boys first at Southern Illinois Team Challenge

BELLEVILLE — The pins were falling just right for the Alton Redbirds boys bowling team Saturday.

The AHS boys came away with first place at the Southern Illinois Team Challenge at Bel Air Bowl. The Alton girls team finished sixth. Both AHS teams bowled in the gold division.

Matt Engdale led Alton with a 1302 series for six games. He was followed by teammates Chris Duke and Jared Cochran.

On the girls side, Alton was led by Ashley Westbrook with a 1165 series followed by Alex Bergin and Robi Dublo.

Each bowler bowled three games in the morning session, then they were divided into divisions and bowled brackets in the afternoon session.

Next up for Alton will be the Southwestern Conference Varsity Tournament Tuesday at Bel Air, hosted by Belleville West.
