PREP BOYS BOWLING: Jersey, CM win divisions, Redbirds fifth in Gold at tourney

Alton placed fifth in the Gold Division, while Jersey and Civic Memorial each won divisions Saturday at the Zach LeCuyer Invitational boys bowling tournament.

Host Collinsville won the tourney at Camelot Bowl in Collinsville. The Kahoks scored 6,466 points in six games to beat a top five of Columbia (6,251), Belleville East (6,137), O’Fallon (6,007) and Alton (5,958) in the 10-team Gold Division.

In the Silver Division, the Jersey Panthers’ pin total of 2,924 from three games edged Mascoutah by seven pins for the division title. In the Bronze Division, the CM Eagles finished at 2,970 to easily win over division runner-up Highland at 2,760. The Silver and Bronze divisions counted scores from the final three games to determine its standings.

Belleville Althoff’s began his day with a 277 game and averaged 236 over six games to win the individual championship with 1,414 pins. Collinsville’s Eli Hay was second with 1,382.

Alton was led by Gavin Taylor in 12th place. He averaged 212 per game while finishing at 1,272 pins. CM also featured a top 20 bowler with Cort Jackson (1,238) averaging 206 after opening with a 237. Alton’s Chris Duke and Matt Engdale placed 25th and 26th, respectively. Duge finished at 1,227, with Engdale at 1,227.
