CHARLESTON — Alton high jumper Katie Mans came through with her fourth state medal Saturday, but she wasn’t the only among Telegraph-area state medalist.

Mans was part of an area contingent at the three-class state meet that included East Alton-Wood River’s Jayden Ulrich, who placed fourth in the Class 2A shot put; Carlinville’s Emma Smith, who grabbed finished third in the Class 1A pole vault; Staunton freshman Lydia Roller, who was sixth in the Class 2A 1600-meter run and Edwardsville’s Lorie Cashdollar, who was sixth in the Class 3A 800-meter run.

Mans grabbed a fifth-place finish at Saturday’s finals of the IHSA Girls Class 3A State Track Meet at Eastern Illinois University’s O’Brien Field, capping a four-year prep career that will land her next year at the University of Illinois.

Mans’ jump of 5 feet, 5 inches was good for a tie with Alessia Olhava of Arlington Heights Hersey for fifth place.

Mans was the lone Alton High finals qualifier. Three others had advanced to Friday’s prelims, including junior Jeanea Epps in the 100-meter dash, junior Laila McNeal in the long jump and the Redbirds’ 4x100 relay team of sophomore Rashia Johnson, McNeal, Epps and sophomore Alleyah Tuggle.

Edwardsville’s Cashdollar surpassed her prelim time in the 800, posting a time of 2 minutes, 15.19 seconds and breaking the Edwardsville school record of 2:15.94 she set Friday. A senior, she is a DePaul University recruit.

Naperville won the Class 3A state championships with 53 points, with Homewood-Flossmoor second at 47 and Belleville West third with 39. In Class 2A, Dunlap easily bested runner-up East St. Louis 102-51 for the team title. Urbana was third in 2A. St. Joe-Ogden won the Class 1A team title with 43 points, with Farmington second at 36 and Decatur St. Teresa third with 35.
